My name is Víctor R. Ruiz and I was born on 1975 in Gran Canaria (Canary Islands). I currently work as IT consultant, specialized on blogs, social media and open source.
Open Source.
- Active member of the open source community since 1997.
- 1998. Co-founder of Grupo de Usuarios de Linux de Canarias.
- Since 2000, Editor of Barrapunto.com, a popular collaborative weblog about open source, copyleft.
Social Media.
- 2002. Created the first blog service in Spain, Blogalia.com.
- 2002. Created the Blogometro, an open source blog activity tracker, developed along Fernando Tricas (University of Zaragoza).
- 2003. Along JJ Merelo (University of Granada) and F. Tricas, published the first social network analysis of the Spanish blogosphere.
- 2003. Created Jibot, a social IRC bot for Joi Ito (Creative Common's CEO and ICANN member). Jibot is featured in Clay Shirky's book Here Comes Everybody.
- 2005. Along Enrique Dans (Instituto de Empresa), Albert Armengol (eConozco) organized the first Web 2.0 conference in Europe, WebDosBeta.net.
- 2006. Co-author of "La Blogosfera Hispana: Pioneros de la cultura digital". Book edited by J. Cerezo, Fundación France Telecom.
- 2004-2007. Worked in Six Apart Europe, the worlwide leader in social software, creators of TypePad, Movable Type and Vox.
Science & Communication.
- Amateur astronomer since 1991.
- 1995. Created the web pages of Agrupación Astronómica de Gran Canaria and Sociedad de Observadores de Meteoros y Cometas de España, originally hosted at University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
- 1997. Created Infoastro.com, one of the oldest Astronomy news sites.
- 2002. Co-founder of the Círculo Científico de Canarias, a non for profit organization dedicated to science communication.
- 2003. Worked at Centro de Astrobiología INTA-CSIC (Associated to NASA), as technician for its Network of Telescopes and science communicator.
