Vikas Chawla’s Summary

I am currently pursuing my Masters in Management and Governance at London School of Economics.

Coming from a business family, I have been interested in management from an early age. I undertook business courses right from high-school. I got practical management exposure when I took on a leadership position at AIESEC, a multi-national youth organisation, where I lead a 45-member local chapter in various activities. It was here that I was able to meet people from 40 different countries and understand so many different cultures. It was here that I gained client management skills, HR skills, People management skills, planning and organizing skills. I also interacted closely with top management at large organizations such as IBM, Tata Group and HSBC.

While working at AIESEC, I simultaneously pursued a diploma in HR, to give me the theoretical management framework. After completing the diploma, I joined the HR team at Taj Coromandel, India’s leading hospitality firm. Apart from ensuring process improvements, I also developed strong relationships at work, and continue to maintain them even now. During this period, I also undertook an internship in Germany with Tata Interactive Systems. This internship helped me realize not only the differences in cultures and management styles, but also the similarities. It was an exciting learning experience to adapt to a different environment and a different work culture.

All through my career, I have been an excellent academic performer and at the same time, excelled in various extra-curricular areas. At the LSE, I have executive roles in the Consultancy and Entrepreneurs Society. While at high-school, I won various state level tournaments in table tennis. In 2007, I was adjudged winner of the competition on Effective Business Communication, organised by one of India’s leading management association.

I look forward to getting into management consulting post my masters.
