IDUG is a non-profit organization that serves the DB2 community around the world. The organization hosts several conferences a year, along with a number of web events.
Member of International DB2 User Group Conference North American Conference Planning Committee. Have the role of Thread Chair and work in the presentations team on preparing DVD content.
I have presented in the past two conferences at IDUG NA 2006 & 2007 on Core DB2 topics.
I am presenting at this years IDUG NA 2008 on a new topic:

This warehouse provides online reports 24x7 for all 1500 clients which were delivered offline once a month. There are two production backend database running on DB2 V9 (code named Viper) and DB2 UDB V8.2 with Data Warehouse Edition V9.1 and V9.1.1.
V9 DB2 configuration highlights:
• DWE 9.1.1 installed to run DB2 Cube Views and Query Patroller.
• DPF – 8 partitions based on BCU version 2.1
• Large table space used for fact and dim tables
• Enabled row compression resulting in 55% of storage savings.
• Fact table based on Hash, MDC and Range partitioned table
• Replicated MQTs for all DIM tables
• ETL processing area with special configuration
• Optimization techniques used: CGS, Statistical Views and Optimizer profiles/hints
• Aggregates for reporting
• Tuning database and stored procedures involved in ETL process.

This project started as a joint effort by IBM and Choicepoint using IBM EAS tool with UDB as the backend engine in non-DPF mode with work inplace to make it DPF in V9 with FCM fix. In this project, I was formally trained by IBM Performance Division from Toronto Labs on the nature of the environment. The environment consisted of 40 terabyte of IBM FastT disks connected to p690 at full capacity.
Responsibilities/Roles:
• Perform Lead DBA tasks and be responsible for the complete IRW environment and the team.
• Physical design of database with IBM FastT drives.
• Work with ETL team on EAS load size and plan space allocation accordingly.
• Monitor EAS Load throughput at the database and system level.
• Perform database Maintenance following EAS loads.
• Perform routine backups to TSM.
• Help QA team with SQL query rewrites.

Worked with team of DBA’s on various levels of responsibilities in a large environment converting multiple applications from Sybase to UDB V8. Support mission critical applications (highly OLTP) which enable the railroad to function 24x7 and daily transaction rates upto 12 million. Experience in tuning mixed workload environment. Carry on-call pager on rotation basis.
Major Sybase to UDB conversion projects successfully completed:
• Conversion of SIMS (Strategic InterModal Systems) – 5 p670 – 6 CPU – 64 Gig RAM – AIX 5.2 ML4+, UDB V8.1 FP6a SB12679 ( Soon upgrading to FP8 / V8.2 FP2).
Transaction Rate: 5 million / day (10 million operations / day)
DB Size: 35 Gig.
Type: Highly OLTP
• Conversion of TYES (Thoroughbread Yard Enterprise System) – 5 p690 – 16 CPU – 64 Gig RAM – AIX 5.2 ML4+, UDB V8.2 FP8 SB13188
Transaction Rate: 15 million / day (25 million operations / day)
DB Size: 40 Gig.
Type: Highly OLTP
