Angel Investor, Technology Advisor
Bangalore Area, India
I am currently an angel investor and technology advisor for early stage companies in India. I spent the last 12 years at Yahoo! and was most recently the Executive Vice President of the Audience Technology Group at Yahoo!, managing the company’s overall consumer product technology and platform strategy. I was responsible for all consumer Yahoo! products such as Mail, Flickr, Answers, Groups, Messenger, Finance, Sports, Auctions, home page, News, etc.. Most of these products were either #1 or #2 in their respective category and country. I was responsible for a 3000+strong technology team distributed across 14 countries that created and operated the products for a worldwide audience base of 550+ million users.
Since joining Yahoo! in early 1998, I have had the opportunity to envision and build a number of products and platform technologies for the company. In 2003, I moved to Bangalore, India to set up a wholly owned subsidiary for Yahoo! and became CEO of Yahoo! India R&D. I was responsible for growing the center to more than 1000 employees and produce significant value for the company. The Bangalore R&D center has become a key innovation and operational hub for the company. In 2006, I took on the additional responsibility as Group Vice President of Engineering for the Marketplaces business for Yahoo!, including Shopping, HotJobs, Travel, Maps, Local, Classifieds, Auctions and Real Estate.
Prior to joining Yahoo!, I lead a research effort on massively multi-processor (MMP) computing at Hewlett Packard and was part of a core team that created the 64-bit UNIX operating system. Prior to that, I worked at a start-up that built a software configuration management system and was acquired by Computer Associates.
I have more than 19 years of experience in the software industry and a B.E. in Electronics & Communication from Coimbatore Institute of Technology and a M.S. in Computer Engineering from the State University of New York, Buffalo.
