Valinda is a career counselor with experience in both public and private higher education. Working in community colleges, graduate schools, and now at a women’s liberal arts college, she understands the importance of listening to and partnering with clients to help them through their career journey, wherever they happen to be. She is a certified administrator of the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and the Strong Interest Inventory (SII).
Preparing presentations for her students as well as for her colleagues is something that Valinda enjoys. She has presented at the Mountain Pacific Association of Colleges and Employers (MPACE) conference in 2007 and 2008 on the topic of using new media with millennial students in university career centers and helping students obtain nonprofit careers, respectively. She has given other workshops focusing on giving parents the skills to nurture their children’s career interests and has spoken at La Sierra University to undergraduate psychology students about the use of career assessments in counseling.
Recently, Valinda has partnered with Idealist.org to help author nonprofit career guides for both college students and mid-life career changers writing on the topics of effectively useing technology in their nonprofit career search. She also serves on the First-time Job Seekers Program Advisory Board for Idealist.org.
