United States Air Force Cadet
Colorado Springs, Colorado Area
I am an Air Force Cadet who serves as a member of the USAFA Honor Executive Committee, a small body of cadets dedicated to enforcing the Honor Code and educating our fellow cadets on how to live honorably. I'm applying for a position in the Air Force Office of Special Investigations. I have experience leading small groups of people in academic and military missions, including the construction of a tent city housing approximately 200 people.
I'm currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Military Strategic Studies, focusing on modern asymmetric warfare and its enabling technologies. The study of culture-jamming techniques and the way they could be twisted for more nefarious purposes are especially fascinating. I'm also halfway to earning a minor in Chinese language and culture.
I also read voraciously, write intermittently, workout under the Crossfit paradigm half as often as I should, and dance as often as I can with USAFA's unofficial "Swing Club."

I've always had a strong sense of justice and right and wrong. It's a big part of what drew me to the Air Force Academy in the first place, and as soon as I got here I began considering devoting my cadet career to the Honor Code. The Honor Executive Committee (the team of twelve First-class Cadets who manage the Honor System) appreciated my dedication and gave me a position as one of their assistants and eventual replacements.
My job includes managing multiple investigations of Honor Code violations, performing Sergeant-at-Arms duties for Honor Boards, and assisting in Honor Education. Without a doubt, Honor Education is the most important part of my job- trying to instill the precepts of Truth, Justice and Support in the next class of cadets.

Global Engagement is a 10-day program dedicated to exposing third-class cadets to expeditionary skills. I was the Superintendent for two of the six ten-day programs offered that summer.
As Supt., it was my job to manage the second-class cadets who served as command staff. I also met with 12 student leaders every night, ensuring open lines of communication between them, the cadet command, and the active duty cadre. This was the most rewarding duty I had that summer, as I was directly leading other cadets. I built long-lasting relationships with many of the twelve from each program. I was incredibly proud when several of them came to me and said they wanted to be Supt. the next summer because of our experience.
My dedication to the students and program were not unnoticed. The cadet commander ranked me as one a valuable subordinate, and he and one of the active duty commanders provided recommendations when I applied for Global Engagement Commander the next summer.

Global Engagement (GE) is a 10-day program that cadets attend during their third class summer. The training covers the expeditionary Air Force's concept of “deployment of troops”. During this 10-day program, cadets receive training in Civil Engineering, Services, and Security Forces career fields. Included in the training is a deployment to Jack's Valley (the Academy's field training area) for five days.
Cadet Hicks served as an Element Lead, providing leadership and accountability for approximately fifteen other third class cadet during the field exercise. This included coordinating construction projects, providing meals for 100+ cadets, leading an urban combat fireteam and assisting in mock-UXO (UneXploded Ordnance) removal and chemical/biological warfare defense.
