Tom Smalling is a professional graphic designer and photographer based in the Central Florida area. Initially, he studied photography at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, and graduated in 1997 with an Associates degree and the honor of best photography portfolio. Upon leaving school, he spent the next several years immersed at Gee & Jenson, E-A-P, Inc., self-learning graphic design principles while working as a production artist and graphic designer in the business development department. The focus of the firm was waterfront and golf course development for such clients as Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, Norwegian Cruise Lines & Carnival Cruise Lines.
In 2001 he joined Song + Associates, which allowed him the opportunity to combine his love for photography and design with his in-depth knowledge of computers and business networks. For four years, working as a one-man design and IT department, his knowledge and understanding grew in all directions as the company expanded from 18 employees to over 50. There were many collaborative design projects including the proposal for the West Palm Beach's "Signature" City Center in conjunction with Michael Graves & Associates.
In 2004, Tom Smalling felt it was time to return to school, which ended in a decision to move to Orlando and pursue a Bachelor's degree in business. During this time he started working as an independent designer with some previous contacts, as well as working part-time downtown for CT Hsu + Associates. Since 2004 his independent design work has grown steadily, adding several larger clients including The St. Joe Company and Limbach Facility Services. Growing up in South Florida, Tom Smalling has always enjoyed the beautiful weather. An avid outdoorsman and waterman, you'll find him surfing on most weekends when the waves are breaking.
