I write because I have to, I edit because I have to earn a living.
Few things please me more than being a rat-terrier about a topic, researching & investigating the hell out of it, so I can then explain it in clear, direct prose to an audience that doesn't realize it needs this info. At first, I thought academia was the place to fulfill this jones, but the World Wide Web came along & spewed vast quantities of confusing detail & crazy jargon onto the masses -- people need interpreters like me. Thus, I found my calling.
The Internet is full of confusing crap. I like to break it down into tasty nuggets of yummy text. Sometimes, this is as seemingly prosaic as the right navigation or button labels. But it can be full-fledged articles or blogs too.
I've written style guides, researched legal issues, & reviewed help documentation. I've copy-edited marketing materials & service announcements. I've done all the standard editorial due-diligence, along with some unusual projects such as naming clothing items for virtual paper dolls, writing weekly polls about new car models (when I've never had a driver's license myself), & suggesting slogans for a Times Square billboard.
The world can be an exciting place to write about. Just don't forget the serial comma.
