Trevor Turnbull’s Summary

As social media has started to dominate the traditional and online news headlines, I have been focused on how I can monitor these trends and figure out ways to implement social media strategies for the companies I work with. Because of this, I have found myself constantly researching the latest trends in social media as they relate to marketing, advertising, business and sports teams.

My background in hockey, combined with my experience as a business owner and account executive in the online marketing industry have particularly fueled my passion to work with sports teams. I believe there is a tremendous opportunity for sports teams to embrace social media to build their fan base and retain those fans through the highs and lows.

As we all know, we are in some tough economic times right now. By engaging in the conversation with hard core fans, season ticket holders and casual fans, sports teams will be able to realize the viral power of social media.....and at a much cheaper cost than traditional one-way marketing. At the end of the day, the professional sports business is still just that……….a business. So, because of this, I spend a lot of my time figuring out ways to help sports leagues and teams monitor, measure and implement strategies to maximize their return on investment (ROI) and return on engagement (ROE) from social media marketing.

The connection is any point of contact between the two including Game-Time and Off-Field Interaction (Websites, mobile applications, Twitter). Values exchanged take the form of game experiences (live or broadcast), merchandise, and activities such as Fantasy Sports.

    The SportFan Connection Tour is a multi-city, multi-sport trip –a sports fans dream vacation– turned into a research opportunity. Our mission is not to preach, sell or influence, but too listen to all the varying, relevant perspectives from old-school stalwarts to new media dreamers. This is a listening tour. We want to ASK THE RIGHT QUESTIONS….to record and to analyze.

    Oversaw all sales and business development functions, including networking, identifying target markets, establishing and meeting sales goals, managing customer relationship management software (Salesforce.com), consultative sales presentations, contract negotiations, and order fulfillment. Facilitate project management once leads have been converted to an account. Conducted training sessions to educate client on how to manage their own website using a CMS. Educated clients on how to effectively optimize and market their new website.

Established a local presence to build on existing relationships with key accounts including West Edmonton Mall. Consulted with prospective clients using consultative sales approach. Worked with Knight Signs project team to complete all aspects of a project including design, surveys, manufacturing, permits and installation.
