Tom was brought in to augment the management team and was responsible for corporate finance, corporate development and strategic planning on an interim basis at Darkstrand. During that time his firm Watermark Capital Partners worked on the Company's first Series A financing which ultimately led to an offer to buy the Company. Darkstrand was formed to commercialize the 15,000-mile next generation hyper-speed, supercomputing optical network known as the National LambdaRail (“NLR” - www.nlr.net). NLR was formed by a consortium of U.S. universities, scientific organizations and regional operating networks (RONs) that deployed this infrastructure to advance networking research and, in the process, enable next-generation applications in science, engineering and medicine. This network now facilitates project work for NASA, the U.S. Department of Defense and the worldwide scientific community. NLR and Darkstrand Share a new vision that Tom helped to create of being 100% focused on commercial collaborations which transcend traditional telecommunication models to advanced unified communications integrated with business, information and scientific platforms, workflows, processes and analytics. This next-gen optical network - the only one of its kind on earth through its direct connection to approximately 280 national labs and academic research institutions. The NLR is not theoretical; it is fully operational and in high demand by Fortune and Global 1000 companies in major industries.
