The Group Manager position is accountable for the day-to-day management and oversight of the System z (mainframe); NON-STOP (Tandem) and zLinux operating environments. This includes, but is not limited to, the operating systems, independent software vendors (ISVs) products, hardware configurations and connectivity, capacity and performance management; Computer Operations and Production Control. During my first year in this position; we reduced operating costs by 20% while upgrading to zOS 1.9 and upgrading the hardware platform to a IBM z10 BC. We have also activated zIIP; ICF; and IFL specialty engines. zVM has been installed on our IFL and we are currently running multiple Redhat zLinux guests.

Notable accomplishments include: implementation of a software currency policy that allows ZMSC systems software to remain one level behind current release levels. Cross training of specific disciplines and expertise within the Systems Programming Group to allow for effective on-call rotations and superior support processes. We successfully mentored and trained younger technicians to address support concerns with elderly technicians retiring.
