Mr. Tek Jung Mahat has received PG Diploma training in ‘Mountain Environment and Global Change’ from the University of Torino, Italy (2008) and M.Sc. in Environmental Science from the Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, Nepal (2003). Besides, he has received CEU Summer University (SUN) course on ‘Integrating Sustainability Thinking into Research and Academic Curricula’ from the Central European University, Budapest, Hungary (2009); ‘Youth Encounter on Sustainability (YES)’ course from the ETH Zurich and the Hosei University of Tokyo, Japan (2009); ‘Information and Communication Technologies for Education Leaders’ course from the World Bank Institute (WBI), the Korea Education and Research Information Services (KERIS) and the Ministry of Education and Human resources Development (MOE&HRD), Seoul, Korea (2007), and several trainings on various issues pertinent to environment, climate change, development communication and leadership.
Author of over two dozen papers, both, online and print (published from UK, Bolivia, India and Nepal), Mr. Mahat has attended several international conferences and workshops took place in Asia, Europe and Latin America. He is also active in academic sector, where he has spent over four years teaching environmental education, environmental economics, climate change, GIS and RS to B.Sc. and higher secondary level students (in TU and HSEB affiliated institutes in Kathmandu). He pioneered moderated e-dialogue and e-networking among the environment professionals working in Nepal through the establishment of the ‘Environment Professionals’ Group: Water, Climate Change and Biodiversity Information Network’ (2005 onwards) with membership of over 370 people, and organization of the ClimateHimalaya e-conference (2007).
Since 2003 he has been actively advocating the ‘Mountain Agenda’ and climate change related issues through his works with ICIMOD, APMN and Mountain Forum in different capacities at HKH, Asia-Pacific and global levels respectively.
