I've wanted to be a journalist since I was in elementary school, when I wrote a newspaper for my second-grade class by hand. The lead story? An expose on my friend Ann's trip to Disney World. While I'll always freelance, in 2006 I took a step away from full-time journalism to work for an online video site, GUBA, where I wrote the official company blog, worked on promo videos and promoted the service within the community. I recently joined the Digg team and am psyched to promote the democratization of news and the expansion of the social media phenomenon.

As the community advocate I advocated on behalf of the community. Ha! See, I'm funny. I used my wit and natural sarcasm to write the company's official blog. I also programed the homepage, wrote and edited marketing copy, worked on partnerships with other sites and organizations, and headed out to tech events to, well, pimp out the product. One of my favorite GUBA accomplishments was befriending Sammy "It's Just Like a Mini-Mall" Stephens. Montgomery! Flea Market!

2000 — 2006 (6 years )
Learned a ton about online and print journalism here, first as an intern from April 2000 - June 2001, then as a journalist (focused on the web site's daily news stories) from June 2004 - October 2005, and finally as a senior journalist (focused on the 150,000-circulation magazine) until my departure in the summer of 2006.
I wrote everything from snarky 100-word blurbs about diversity-related news to 2,500-word magazine features on corporate diversity programs and social issues (GLBTs in the workplace, healthcare disparities, etc.).
