Kumina has a clear view on IT servicing and quality assurance. These views can mostly be summed up in the following list.
- Integrity
Wiktionary says about integrity:
1. Steadfast adherence to a strict moral or ethical code.
2. ... unimpaired
3. The quality or condition of being complete;
All these three points can be found in the way we do business, the way we do maintenance and the way our maintained systems work. This is probably the most important part of our philosophy.
When errors occur, we will be candid about them and fix them as soon as possible. We dislike sloppy work. We concentrate on making your systems work the way you want them to work and helping you in finding solutions for problems. That's what integrity is all about.
- Trustworthy
This means we don't lie (intentionally) and you can rely on us. When we say it will be finished, it will be finished. When we say it will work, it will work. When we're not sure about something, we say we're not sure but we'll look into it. When we said it would be finished and it isn't, we take the blame and explain as candid as possible why it wasn't finished and how we tried to achieve it being finished nonetheless.
When we say we work on a “best effort” basis, we give our best effort.
- Cooperation
These are *your* servers and you need access to them at all times. You need to be able to check on Kumina's work. You need to know how things work. You need to be able to change things, immediately, without waiting for consent. You don't want to be totally dependant on Kumina for running your servers.
At Kumina, it's mandatory to document everything. And we give you access to every part of the documentation we have access to. Kumina needs to work together with you, not independent of you. This is very important to us. As long as you have access to every part of the documentation, you can check our quality. It forces us to be the best we can be.

Kumina supports infrastructure for large websites and other internet-related services. We do Linux system administration, and partner with other companies who provide hardware and network support. Kumina currently has three employees, all founders and equal owners.
We've designed and implemented solutions for several large websites which need highly available infrastructure. Our customers include several Dutch companies and some companies from other European countries (currently the UK, Sweden and Denmark), some of which have a 24x7 support contract and an availability guarantee.
Currently, my work focuses on administrating servers and trying to find ways to automate common tasks even more. I also work a lot with Puppet. From the business perspective, I'm the general manager and am responsible for the financial administration and contracts too.

I was asked by two psychologists to help them form this company. They had some new ideas about Human Resource Management through the Internet. They had the knowledge, I had the technical skill to help them. From the start, I was responsible for a Linux-based, colocated server and the business server at the office. I also helped in creating the programs. Eventually, other people got hired and I wasn't needed anymore.
