Infrastructure Architect - Registries at NSW Roads and Traffic Authority
Sydney Area, Australia
My training was originally in UNIX development (C, C++, perl, java, shell), with a strong personal interest in System Administration (Solaris, Linux, BSD), Network Architecture, Security Consultancy, and System Architecture.
I've led projects in all these areas and have recently moved on from Technical Lead in charge of a team focusing on providing testing environments for other developers, business and technical testers to a position as Team Lead of a highly technical UNIX infrastructure, architecture, and development team.
I also have experience in Project Management, Windows, and strong ties to the Open Source movement.
My goals in all my work are to maximise flexibility by minimising reliance on closed standards and expenditure, instead focusing on the best solutions available which work with non-vendor-locked-in open standards. I strive to understand the latest developments and how they could be harnessed, and believe in rapid prototyping rather than design-by-committee.

This role encompassed managing a team of UNIX System Administrators, balancing the requirements at management level with the available resources and skills, while also furthering my own technical knowledge.
Key challenges from external benchmarking have to be met, while balancing the requirements of many varied internal and external customers within a highly complex environment with rapid churn.
