Timothy Dady’s Summary

Java/C programmer with a Business Intelligence (Business Objects/Crystal Decisions/Seagate Software) background. Currently my position focuses on Java programming of backend servers communicating with Sybase servers via JDBC and clients via XML. Some of my work is also on C Sharp and Flex client interfaces. I also have experience using J2EE in Tomcat talking to an Oracle backend, custom C servers on HP-UX, Windows MFC clients and mobile clients for Blackberry and J2ME devices.

Before the jump to dev work, I did a lot with the Crystal Reports designer, Business Objects Enterprise, and testing on the Java or .NET SDKs for BOE or CR (CR4E, JRC, RAS, etc). Nine years experience troubleshooting and doing QA on the whole platform. Lots of database interaction (Oracle, SQL Server mostly but touched them all). Much J2EE app server setup/configuration as well (mainly Websphere/Tomcat). The last few years of my BOBJ work was digging into the client SDKs, more Java than .NET. Delivered lots of training in the middle of the nine years -- ramping people up on critical thinking/troubleshooting skills or authoring training materials for new product releases or new cooporative technologies (i.e. Java app servers as they came into prominence).

Timothy Dady’s Experience

  • Accesso

    (Leisure, Travel & Tourism industry)

    September 2008Present (5 months)

Accesso provides ticketing and electronic commerce for the entertainment industry. My role of software engineer programs the software used for the ticketing solutions themselves in addition to supporting modules like external system interfaces, reporting, customer support and data warehousing. Our team is responsible for all aspects of software development from conception to delivery to post release support and maintenance. Technically, my role focuses on Java programming for the backend servers but also includes client changes in either Flex or C Sharp. Our software uses XML, JDBC, Socket to Socket communication and a number of other printing interfaces. Third party software interaction includes Sybase ASA database server, Tomcat Application Server and Apache Web Server. Linux is used for the backend servers and Windows is used for the point of sale terminals or kiosks.

  • American Automobile Association (AAA)

    (Information Technology and Services industry)

    September 2007September 2008 (1 year 1 month)

Working with the Club Applications Development group within the Information Services team at AAA. The role is to write/maintain the D/2000 Emergency Roadside Service application. The core applications are MFC clients interacting with C servers on HP-UX storing data in an Oracle database.

Some other applications I work with are pure java. For example, we hava a Java application used by truck drivers on their mobile devices to interact with the core system - send updates or communicate that the work is complete. We also have a Java web application to help the clubs with some self service aspects - reporting, database maintenence, etc.

    Tools: C, SQL, Pro*C, Oracle, HP-UX, Java

PG Escalations Engineer is a QA position dedicated to the maintenence phase of the product life cycle. After the product is in use, there will invariably be flaws, design misunderstandings and enhancements requests that need to be made for the software to meet the needs of our customer base. My team handles product flaws reported post-release and qualifies them appropriately - i.e. by design, real flaw, enhancment request. When code changes are needed, we give the issue to a developer for resolution. We test the change made by the developer as well.

I do a majority of my work on the Java or .NET sdks. I will test a small application that demonstrates the reported behaviour to verify its behaviour and recommend code changes to get the customer working while we fix the flaw (when appropriate).

Tools used: C#, VB .NET, Java, SQL, Oracle, SQL Server, Crystal Reports, Business Objects Enterprise (Windows, Solaris, Linux, HPUX and AIX platforms), VS2002, VS2003, VS2005, Eclipse
