Tiara Shafiq is a young cosmopolitan from a multicultural background, currently immersing herself in the world of creative performance. She has spent a few years as a strong advocate for alternative education, youth empowerment, and social enterprise, and is now using those skills to enhance her performative work.
She is currently setting up The Merch Girl, a creative productions services business that works on the auxiliary tasks - administration, stage management, artist liaison, front of house, and so on - that accompany every production, performer, and producer. She herself performs long-form and short-form regularly with Edge Improv, and is training in circus (with Vulcana Women's Circus) and burlesque (with the Scoundrelles).
Tiara likes to explore, experiment, and educate herself in the alternative and unusual. This has seen her shave her head for cancer research, write novels in a month, be acquainted with a dominatrix, perform an impromptu fandance...the list goes on. She is a nomad at heart and loves to make connections between unrelated ideas, people, and concepts. When not near the stage she spends her time reading stacks of books from the library, keeping up with the world online, or checking out a current festival or show.
