My name is Thomas Ott and I love being a Professional Civil Engineer! I’m passionate about solving my clients’ infrastructure problems and I believe Civil Engineers can, and do change the world by shaping it for the betterment of humanity. I currently serve in SYSTRA Consulting’s corporate headquarters in New Jersey (SYSTRA is the premier High-Speed Rail consulting firm in the U.S) as a civil department manager, I help facilitate the growth of capabilities and expertise in civil engineering, as well as provide support/design functions for rail stations, transit planning studies, and other transit related facilities.
I started my engineering career in Albuquerque, NM, focusing on roadway, drainage, and utility design. After moving back home to the NY/NJ Metro area, I concentrated on commuter and light rail transit projects such as the Southern New Jersey Light Rail, NJT’s Pascack Valley Line, Raritan Valley Line extension, and currently, two flood mitigation projects for New York City Transit.
As an engineer and citizen, I support Green Energy initiatives such as mass transit, solar energy, and unique building and site designs with low energy footprints. I know that Civil Engineers will be an instrumental part of the Green Energy revolution.
I take an active role in my professional community and formerly served on the governing board of two societies. As Past President for the Northern Jersey Branch of ASCE I honed my leadership and board governance abilities by making positive decisions that affected over 8,000 members. My most notable legacy as Past President was the transition of a paper based monthly newsletter to an electronic newsletter, saving the Branch Treasury more than $13,000 per year.
I currently serve as a member of the Kinnelon Board of Zoning and Adjustment and routinely look for opportunities to make a difference in my world.
With that said – how may I help you today?
