My research topic was Knowledge-based Expert Systems for solving a geographical problem.
The 2-year full-time research involved independently developing a knowledge-based expert system “Crop Advisor” for the Department of Water, Land and Biodiversity Conservation (DWLBC) using the South Australian datasets and knowledge from human land use experts. DWLBC is considering to implement the Crop Advisor as a decision support system for South Australian farmers.
Responsibilties:
Requirements gathering from experts at Department of Water Land and Biodiversity Conservation.
Developing a methodology for land evaluation, crop selection process and designing the workflow.
Liasing with other State department officials to collect data, decision-making knowledge required for the Expert system.
Analysing datasets, applying weightages with respect to physical, economic and human resources availability.
Developing the expert system with a GUI using Visual Basic and MS Access.
Presenting the research in the form of a written thesis (40,000 words).
