Michael Schoonmaker’s Summary

Between working on student projects, indie games, and two internships at development studios / publishers; I've gained a broad scope of experience in game development. Even with full-time work I find myself itching to work on my own, and have picked up web development as a side project. In the future I hope to build upon both of these foundations with the eventual goal of a career as either a Technical Director or Executive Producer.

Michael Schoonmaker’s Experience

  • 38 Studios

(Privately Held; 11-50 employees; Computer Games industry)

    September 2008Present (5 months)

  • LucasArts

(Privately Held; 201-500 employees; Computer Games industry)

    June 2008August 2008 (3 months)

I was a member of the Jedi Academy internship program at Lucasfilm, working as an LEC (LucasArts) Engineering Intern on the Core team, and working on lots of amazing projects that I unfortunately cannot talk about. The internship program was the first for the company in a while, and an amazing success.

More specifically, without breaking NDA, I worked closely with my manager Daniel Deptford to try and reduce build times for LucasArts. The two methods I learned and implemented used automated tools to preprocess and explicitly instantiate STL headers and analyze include dependencies. After that, I worked with Daniel on a proprietary core system and Aaron Yonas on a pair of audio engineering projects.

  • Destineer

(Public Company; 51-200 employees; Computer Games industry)

    May 2007August 2007 (4 months)

Performed extensive Quality Assurance for Destineer, a game developer and publisher. Worked very closely with several developers and producers to ensure products met both deadlines and expectations. In addition, did extensive research into the design and development processes, using in and out-of-company resources.
