Founded with the belief that lasting peace is possible through learning how to live together as friends, CISV runs cross-cultural, experiential peace education programs primarily targeting children and youth.

A seminar camp is an intensive, multi-/inter-cultural three week programme for youth, 17-18 years old, in which there is only 1-3 delegates from each participating country. Seminar camps have a more direct educational approach and is actively conducted by the participants, who address key international and intercultural issues. [www.cisv.org]

  • International Staff Member (Brazil)

    CISV

(Non-Profit; Professional Training & Coaching industry)

    January 2006January 2006 (1 month)

See the above description of CISV Seminar Camp or visit www.cisv.org.

In this specific camp, the big lack of respect for other peoples personality, feelings and needs created a lot of frustration and anger among both the participant and staff group. Another important piece of this camp was that neither the participants, nor the staff worked towards the same goal...or even managed to agree on a common goal

This taught me very much about patience, flexibility and most of all about conflict management. It is also one of the bigger stepping stone when it comes to my own personal development - anger management got a completely new meaning. ;-)

This camp also made me reflect on the fact that we have a long way to go before we can even be close to world peace...and that we need many strong leaders to pave the way and help us keep the bigger goal in focus.

I worked together with 10-12 dedicated board members and their "departments", in total 50 people. Our work was mainly focused on developing the quality of the HRM education in Linköping and securing the feeling of affinity among the HRM students. My responsibility also included representing and developing the education on a national level together with two of my board members.
