Trained as a design analyst, TERRY RAY HILLER has worked with both commercial and non-profit organizations throughout North America. His area of special interest is entrepreneurial management, and in the last two decades has successfully incorporated his diverse knowledge and skill set serving in capacities ranging from department head and buyer to executive director and board member. His responsibilities have at one time or another touched on virtually every aspect of modern organizational operation.
In addition to his retail accomplishments, he’s taught art and museum operations, and has written about the complex connections between the profit and nonprofit worlds and their impact on each other. Articles include “Beyond Cyberspace" (MUSEUM STORE, 1995), and “Coming Changes in Public Arts” (FUTURIST, 2001.
He’s been a presenter to organizations including the Museum Store Association, ASTC (Association of Science and Technology Centers) and the Kaiser-Permanente Management Excellence Symposium. In addition, he has written columns and articles for publications including DISPATCH (Oregon Museum Association Magazine), the YUMA SUN Newspaper, MUSEUM UPDATE (Ohio Museum Association), OMSI Magazine, VOYAGES (Journal of the Odyssey Maritime Discovery Center) and CALIFORNIA HISTORY ACTION (California Committee for the Preservation of History).
A futurist, Mr. Hiller was, for twelve years, the emerging technologies columnist for “Communicator Magazine,” exploring real, theoretical and fantastic technologies within science fiction. He’s been interviewed on subjects ranging from exhibit design and consumer behavior, museum to operations, and the search for extraterrestrial civilizations.
Mr. Hiller is a member of the World Future Society, the Society of Industrial Leaders and the Gerson Lehrman Group Retail Council.
He currently lives near Seattle, Washington, with his wife, author/artist Margie M. Singer.
