Gustave Stresen-Reuter’s Summary

Fascinated by computer mediated communication, I studied the use of computers in teaching languages in school, and then went on to general multimedia development, and in 1996, web development.

Although Linguistics and Programming may seem like diverse fields, I believe there is a strong relationship. Linguistics is the study of natural languages and Programming is the study of artificial languages. I believe my degree in Linguistics laid the groundwork for a successful career in Web Application Development, where I do lots of programming in many, diverse artificial languages.

  • University of Illinois at Chicago

Master of Arts , Specialization in TESOL , 19921994

Conducted a study on the use of computers in English composition for non-native speakers. Study concluded that students produced moderately better compositions when using computers. However, students also spent more time composing and one could conclude that this extra time spent was the principal reason for the improved quality of the compositions and not just the fact that they were composed on computers.

Spent school year 1990-91 in Barcelona, Spain

Everything I learned about filmmaking (production schedules, budgets, formalizing the viewing experience, etc.) is directly applicable to web application development.
