I am the founder of Balik Bayan Books, a non-profit organization dedicated to furthering education in the Philippines by sending books, money, and supplies back to schools in need. We have managed to send several thousand dollars worth of books back to schools in the Philippines, and our work with Bukidnon State University allowed them a higher level of accreditation as a Math and Science school.

Acted as designer, developer, and database architect of a web tool to make it easier for the researchers study the dissemination of information on Twitter, and Blogs. The research division of the Mars Corporation was very interested in the work we did. Using the tool on only 2 days of data, we were able to show the Mars Corporation data that even their research division had never seen before.

Joined with the Asian American Studies department at the University of Maryland to record an ethnography of Asian Pacific American community leaders in the metropolitan area. Interviewed individuals, recorded and edited the videos, and transcribed the audio for preservation in our archives.

Shivan Corp. is a contracting company servicing the Energy Information Administration at the Department of Energy.
While there, I:
Re-constructed several programs from Visual Basic to C# used to query and manipulate multiple databases. Simplified the complicated database management process to single-click.
Developed a program that collected statistical data on our flagship web product, which was used to prove the value of certain features of our product.
Created the Short-Term Energy Outlook report every month; a PDF and Excel report used by thousands of people, both internally and externally.

Buddhism Club at University of Maryland
September 2011 – present (9 months)I am the founder, and president, of the very first Buddhist oriented organization on the University of Maryland campus. Every other week, a group of interested learners and I sit down to discuss tenets of Buddhism. I usually prepare a lecture every week, and give the lecture about Buddhism, after which we discuss the ideas and meditate.

Team Members: Tam-Sanh NguyenCreated a computer controlled dorm room, playfully dubbed the "Party Button." Researched and designed a system using Flex, PHP, C, Tcl, and a micro controller to create a computer controlled dorm room, complete with 'Party Button.'
Programmed the music system to be controlled by a micro controller wrist watch. Garnered the attention of MTV, and was subsequently filmed and interviewed for the pilot episode of Savage U. -
Translate for Japan

Team Members: Tam-Sanh NguyenAfter the Japanese earthquake, wrote an online tool to help with social translation, by giving translators easy access to tweets in English with the tag #prayforjapan. The translators would translate the well-wishing tweets from English into Japanese, and the tool would re-tweet the translation on the @PrayForNippon account, while simultaneous replying to the original tweeter and including the #socialTranslation and #prayforjapan hashtags.
