I’m a very curious person.

It’s one of the reasons I’ve always liked the insurance industry. It’s given me a chance to understand how a variety of different businesses work because providing the best insurance coverage for any business imaginable required that I understand what they do.

You can often discover what a person is like by the TV shows they watch and some of my favorites are “Unwrapped” on the Food Network and “How it’s Made” on the Discover Channel – basically I like just about any show that explains how something is done.

That said, sometimes curiosity can have a downside. Think of George Banks in the movie “Father of the Bride”. You may remember the scene where George finds his daughter’s new in-law’s checkbook while digging through their desk and gets caught. He got in mega trouble for being too snoopy. Fortunately, I’ve never been that extreme but I have been known to make my wife a little crazy at times!

Yet this curiosity is what drives me to explore, experiment, test, write and talk about how existing and emerging technology products and processes can help insurance agents help their clients.

I’ve worn many hats in my career -- insurance company underwriter, insurance agent and producer, programmer (for a very short period of time), writer and speaker. Over the years, I’ve developed a unique ability to turn technology geek-speak into easily understood information that helps agency owners and staff understand technology and how to use it effectively (and even profitable!) in their organization.

And I’m proud that I am a practical and hands-on person as I travel throughout the country teaching, training and helping agents embrace technology and get to the next level of where they want to be.

So what’s my driving passion? It’s simply finding the best technology tools available to help insurance agents and the insurance industry more effectively build, manage and profit in their businesses.

    The Insurance Automation Award – in memory of Wade S. Dunbar Jr. will be presented to a person who has made significant contributions to insurance industry automation, in the spirit of Wade S. Dunbar. The recipient will be selected by a committee made up of past presidents/chairmen, executive committee members and industry leaders.

    Qualifications include:

    * Automation/technology involvement on an industry-wide basis
    * Recognized achievements while serving the industry from a vendor, insurance company, agency, or industry organization perspective
    * Exemplary personal standards relative to the insurance industry and the common good for all
