Syed Tirmizi’s Summary

Currently, I am a candidate for PhD in Computer Sciences at UT Austin. My research work is about ontologies (knowledge-bases) and Semantic Web. As a part of my research at UT, I am also leading the software development team working on Morphster project. Morphster project has been funded by NSF, and is a part of 'Assembling a Tree of Life' initiative by NSF. The software is intended to provide collaborative image driven ontology editing and phylogenetic studies.

Previously, I have lead the system analysis and software development efforts of Radix Academics Suite for National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences, Pakistan. Radix has a distributed architecture and supports functions like Online Registration, Profiles Management, Semester Work, Accounts, Degree and Course Plans, Notice-board and Course Management. Radix is a web-based system and has an elaborate access control mechanism to provide appropriate information to the administration, office users, students and the faculty.

Syed Tirmizi’s Specialties:

My research work falls in the domain of ontology and Semantic Web. The main focus is on building 'image driven ontologies'. I am also working on building triple stores for ontologies and creating mappings between different formats like Open Biomedical Ontologies (OBO), SQL and OWL.
