September 2003 — September 2008 (5 years 1 month)
After leaving the bright lights of London and looking for a change, I moved a few miles west to Oxford and began working in IT support for Audley Travel; then a small (approximately 30 people) tailor-made tour operator, specialising in Southeast Asia. The company was doing extremely well and growing quickly. They needed someone to handle all of their IT and I was soon promoted to IT Manager and recruited myself a team. The company expanded into specialising in Africa, Australasia, Latin America, the Indian Subcontinent, North & Central Asia and most recently Canada. For five years, I was in charge of all IT and communications purchasing, support and management as the company grew to 240 employees and over £60m p.a. turnover, including a huge relocation that I managed in December 2006.
(Privately Held; Online Media industry)
August 2000 — August 2003 (3 years 1 month)
Initially starting work at Interesource on placement between my second and third years of my degree, I was asked to return (and gladly accepted!) upon graduating. For most of my time at IR, I was a developer on the London Stock Exchange website, initially assisting with maintenance work, progressing to handling all of the maintenance for the site as well as becoming involved in creating new sections and apps. Some of IR's other clients at the time included The Telegraph, Honda, BBC and DogsTrust (formerly NCDL). Interesource have since re-invented themselves and are now doing some amazing work with Web 2.0 and social media sites.
(Government Agency; 10,001 or more employees; Government Administration industry)
June 1998 — August 1999 (1 year 3 months)
I worked on a project for the Education & Cultural Services Directorate called LINKS (Lancashire Information Network Kiosk Service) during the summers of 1998 and 1999. This project aimed to provide important local and countywide information to rural locations through Lancashire where internet access was unavailable at the time. These were in the form of standalone, touch-screen kiosks that were situated in the heart of the village; a sort of modern-day village notice board! An online version on the web was also created, for those in the county who did have internet access.
