Data centre manager with responsibility for 13 sites around the world. Primary responsibility for 7 data centres in Europe and Canada, with a new one scheduled to open during 2008, providing support to the remaining 6 located in the Asia Pacific region.
A good technical knowledge of the inner workings of data centre facility management, including power and cooling planning and networking.
Extensive experience with computer server implementation and support. Including AIX and Linux certification and direct hands-on experience with Windows Server 2003.
Responsibility for managing data centres. Hot and cold aisle cooling principles. Power management including choke point analysis and UPS / Generator principles. Experience in all elements of networking, server and firewall installations and support.

A good technical knowledge of the inner workings of data centre facility management, including power and cooling planning and networking. Providing reliable data centres to the Uptime Institute Tier 4 standard, including 99.999% availability provided by n+1 redundant systems.
Instigated the creation of a new power review matrix to provide accurate power allocation within each data centre.
Management responsibilities for on-site engineering teams, technicians and site security.
As well as maintaining our own sites a number of these are at 3rd party locations. Responsibilities include maintaining those relationships including the Interface Agreement and process improvement.

Responsibilities included installation and configuration of Sun Solaris, Redhat Enterprise Linux and Windows Server 2003.
Also providing configuration and ongoing support for DNS servers installed around Europe with several large reverse IP address ranges as well as forward domain name resolution for customer and new ranges.
One of the tasks involved the technical set-up of a new data centre including on-site installation and operational readiness testing.

Working as a security specialist / consultant for the Managed Security Services Centre of Excellence.
This involved technical security analysis, consultancy, security auditing and life-cycle support. I also had responsibilities for firewall configuration and policy writing. This was primarily using Checkpoint Firewall on Nokia appliances / Sun servers, but also included IBM firewall on AIX / RS6000.
Work involved migration of networks from legacy socks firewalls to state based routing firewalls connecting different network zones.
Led the roll-out and support of a Europe wide TACACS Cisco authentication service. Also included support of Europe wide DNS servers hosting hundreds of domain zones and reverse address ranges.

Led the worldwide roll-out of tn3270 gateways on AIX / RS6000 servers.

Included Cisco router support for outsourcing customers and TCP/IP support on the main frame.
Included providing 24/7 call-out for the global network and dealing with customer support.

Network boot-camp. Six week intensive course covering all aspects of network theory and Cisco network configuration. This was a result of the Higher Technical Potential status attained whilst working for IBM.

Although my current role is more managerial / project management than the technical work I am still technically active in my spare time. I maintain a Linux server as well as a number of Linux computers used for development and production use in the theatre. I keep my knowledge up-to-date and blog technical articles. I keep up with the latest developments including Beta testing and submitting bug reports for the latest Ubuntu releases. I am a web developer maintaining my own websites and county webmaster for Warwickshire St John Ambulance. I am experienced with writing html/xhtml and creating dynamic pages using perl and php. I have also created websites using Adobe Studio, Flash, Sharepoint, Immediacy CMS and PHPNuke. I am a member of the county staff team for Warwickshire St John Ambulance. In my career as a volunteer I have been responsible for direct management of a town division and with command responsibility for the St John Ambulance response to the flooding during 2007.
Designated Higher Technical Expert, and put on fast path training scheme whilst working for IBM.
Ten year long service award for AT&T.
Twelve year long service medal for St John Ambulance.
