Learning Systems Design Professional
Greater Los Angeles Area
As an adult education professional with extensive, results-driven experience in the application of instructional and collaboration technologies, I have established myself as a "double threat" with advanced skills in both e-learning development and instructional systems design (ISD). Broad experience in both corporate and academic settings has armed me with a thorough grounding in the educational challenges and opportunities facing most organizations today. Informed by this knowledge and a highly flexible design approach, the performance interventions I develop have a proven track record of making organizational and individual goals attainable.
ISD, Flash design, technical training, WBT, documentation, task analysis, online collaboration, systems thinking and modeling, simulation design, software visualization, SharePoint site design and utilization, multimedia development, sales training, management development, communication skills, fitness education, writing
(Privately Held; Computer Software industry)
February 2008 — Present (1 year 10 months)
This position is the realization of a longtime goal to enter the high-tech industry. I'm helping to shape the direction of customer training for users of our products, and developing my own knowledge and skills in such areas as software requirements definition, user support tools, technical documentation, project management, simulation design and, of course, software visualization with iRise.
(Public Company; WM; Banking industry)
October 2006 — January 2008 (1 year 4 months)
Here I had the privilege of leading a small team of e-learning developers in our Home Loans division. Partnering with other training design teams throughout the company, playing a part in the development of my team's technical skills, and being mentored by a great management team were some of the highlights of this experience.
(Public Company; WM; Banking industry)
August 2004 — October 2006 (2 years 3 months)
With this position, I enthusiastically re-entered the e-learning field. Here I had the opportunity to learn new tools, such as Firefly and Captivate, greatly increase my Flash skills, and work for a company that fully supported the use of technology-enabled training, collaboration, and talent management.
(Public Company; BFT; Health, Wellness and Fitness industry)
January 2001 — August 2004 (3 years 8 months)
At Bally I gained my first real experience working within a corporate training department. Though my title never changed, my role expanded quickly to encompass the management of several high-profile, enterprise-wide training initiatives in areas ranging from computer systems to sales to new program rollouts. Bally wasn't quite ready for e-learning, but I still managed to push through a few small projects, and gained my first hands-on experience with software simulation and end-to-end video production.
(Educational Institution; Higher Education industry)
January 1996 — July 2001 (5 years 7 months)
For several years I assumed that teaching at a community college would be my career. While I loved teaching writing, it was the students who convinced me that this was what I wanted to do long-term. Community college students are the most motivated, and yet the most humble I've encountered after teaching at four different higher ed institutions. My career aspirations have evolved over the years, but I still miss the students.

October 1995 — July 2001 (5 years 10 months)
This was my first teaching gig after getting my M.A., and the longest-lived. With DeVry's technology orientation, I felt quite at home there, even though I was teaching mainly general education classes. One of my regular classes there also qualifies as the most fun I've ever taught -- public speaking.
(Educational Institution; Higher Education industry)
January 1996 — May 2001 (5 years 5 months)
As a former LBCC student, it was gratifying to teach there. During my "freeway flyer" days, this school was more or less my home campus, where I felt the most comfortable experimenting with instructional technology, and where I was the most involved, serving on the Academic Senate, co-chairing the Faculty Professional Development Steering Committee, delivering workshops for faculty, and claiming the school as my institutional affiliation when presenting at a conference.
(Privately Held; E-Learning industry)
August 2000 — December 2000 (5 months)
Though brief, my time at Quisic was both exciting and instructive. This was my first pure instructional design gig, and gave me my first exposure to a highly structured workflow for e-learning development. The teamwork was incredible, the products were impressive, and the subject matter was fascinating. Unfortunately, I joined Quisic right before the dot-com bubble burst, so my days there were numbered.
(Primary/Secondary Education industry)
September 1999 — June 2000 (10 months)
While I was in college and deciding on a teaching career, I told myself that I'd never teach high school or be a corporate trainer. I was wrong in my assumptions about corporate training, but those I had for high school teaching were pretty close to the mark. This career detour was a valuable experience, however, if for no other reason than to foster a great deal of respect for those who choose to devote themselves to this profession.
(Public Company; Retail industry)
