eBusiness Architect @ Thermo Fisher Scientific
Greater Pittsburgh Area
Early career: learned a lot about engineering and application development & deployment (language: C, platform: primarily OS/2) from talented co-workers at Mannesmann Demag; traveled extensively around the world for client project deployments; had my interest piqued by that 'new Java thing' around 1996 and eventually moved on to e-commerce in a J2EE environment at Fisher Scientific in 1999.
Mid-career: gained proficiency with Java and naturally gravitated to higher-level architecture, including best practices and design patterns; fell in love with XML/XSL in mid-1999 and haven't looked back since; jumped head-first into web services (mostly SOAP, some REST) and SOA around the beginning of the 2000's and, after heading up the group responsible for Web Services at Fisher, moved on to a pure-play SOA company - SEEC - in late 2005
Late career: continuing to leverage solid XML/XSL skills in AJAX front-end layer while continuing to architect, design, and develop multi-tiered SOA solutions; in particular, finding interesting ways to integrate XML (lately ATOM/RSS) throughout the tiered application stack
