Steve Garfield's Overview
Steve Garfield's Summary
Steve Garfield is an advisor to and investor in media and internet companies, a speaker at conferences on mobile video broadcasting, video producer, and teacher.
Garfield taught New Media Tools for Journalism at Boston University from 2008-2009 and continues to guest lecture at BU, Emerson, Northeastern, Simmons and other colleges to show students how to leverage video production tools to help them get seen and get hired.
My first book, Get Seen: Online Video Secrets, came out in January 2010 from Wiley Publishing. It is about how easy it is to get started in web video. The book includes interviews with successful web video producers where you can learn their secrets and then follow step by step guides for putting video on the web.
Selected recent speaking engagements include Educational Travel Conference, Podcamp Western Mass, New England Newspaper Association, Streaming Media East/West, New Media Expo, PodCamp Boston, Video on the Net - Boston and San Jose, NH Film Festival, Woods Hole Film Festival, and Podcast Academy Boston.
Garfield is one of the Internet's first video bloggers having launched his own regular video blog on January 1, 2004.
Garfield likes to capture and share fleeting moments and teach others how to do the same. This led to his becoming co-creator of the first vloggercon, and a co-organizer of the first PodCamp held in Boston.
He currently runs the Boston Media Makers which meets on the first Sunday of every month at Doyle's Cafe in Boston. Join us.
On February 3, 2005, Garfield posted what is believed to be the first video blog from a United States elected politician, Boston City Councillor John Tobin.
In 2007, Garfield produced Nina Simonds' Spices of Life video blog.
Garfield currently provides citizen journalism reports for CNN iReport, and has also worked with Rocketboom, TheUptake, and techPresident.
