Steve Buttry’s Summary
I moved to Cedar Rapids in June 2008 as Editor of The Gazette and GazetteOnline. After publication of my Blueprint for the Complete Community Connection, a vision for a new business model for media companies, I have shifted full-time to working on innovation as C3 Coach for Gazette Communications. Before coming here, I spent three years at the American Press Institute, mostly working in the teaching and research of the Newspaper Next project. I have worked as an editor, reporter and writing coach for the Evening Sentinel in Shenandoah, Iowa; Des Moines Register; Kansas City Star and Times, Minot (ND) Daily News and Omaha World-Herald. I have trained and consulted with journalists and news media executives in 43 states and eight Canadian provinces in addition to Washington, D.C., Mexico, Canada, Japan, Saudi Arabia and Ecuador. My training materials and articles about our business have been used by journalists, students and newspaper executives around the world and translated into at least eight languages.
