Stephan Tual’s Summary

I am 5one's Technical Director, where I hold the overall responsibility for the day to day running and security of the technical infrastructure.

Until March 2008 and as Terapad.com's Founder and Technical Director, I grew the company from a startup in August 2004, to today where it now operates over 10,000 websites in 156 countries including national landmarks such as the world-famous Cutty Sark. I single-handedly wrote the application that is now ZDNET's highest rated web publishing and Content Management solution, winning the Editor's Choice award and surpassing Microsoft Expression Web, Dreamweaver, WordPress, etc. in their December 07 review (http://tinyurl.com/yttre9).

Prior to launching Terapad I acted as Macromedia's (now Adobe) Regional Master Certified Instructor for the UK. During that time I have provided consulting services on scalability, security and programming for a broad range of over 50 prestigious companies, including BT OpenWorld, Cable & Wireless, Churchill Insurance, GMTV, the Royal Air Force and the Department of Defense.

Stephan Tual’s Specialties:

I have 11 years of extensive experience in client and partners' management, solution selling, complex project delivery, business development and technical sales. I also hold a far-reaching technical background, including developing dozens of enterprise-level web applications for companies such as Creative Labs and Mobil Oil.

As an EU citizen who worked in the US, France and England, I am open to regular and international travel.

  • Technical Director

    SiteJourney

(Privately Held; 11-50 employees; Internet industry)

    September 2006March 2008 (1 year 7 months)

In September 2006 the Terapad.com software was transferred to SiteJourney Ltd. As Technical Director, I headed SiteJourney's strategic vision, architecture, software development and operations.

During my tenure at SiteJourney Ltd, our flagship product Terapad continued to receive positive reviews from both the press and its rapidly growing user base. These reviews can be consulted at http://www.terapad.com/press/.

My responsibilities included strategic and technical management, project/program management, coordinating teams, research planning, user experience, technical build/implementation and liaising with System Integrators and ISVs.

I also implemented and overview our Reseller program, managing and leveraging relationships with our resellers network, running partner events, building alliance strategies with web, design, marketing and creative agencies of all sizes.

  • Founder

    Terapad.com

(Privately Held; 1-10 employees; Internet industry)

    August 2004September 2006 (2 years 2 months)

As Terapad's Founder, I took the company from inception to hosting over 10,000 websites in 156 countries. Terapad offers a hosted online publishing and e-commerce solution to SMBs, encompassing over 400 features as part of one coherent, secure and scalable offering.

During this time I single handedly deployed the large-scale, always-on Terapad architecture and built the application using: UML, Java, OOP/MVC, ColdFusion, MySQL, JavaScript (AJAX), xHTML, CSS and XML. Terapad scales to 2M page views/day per off-the-shelf server, and is clustered and load-balanced as a J2EE application (using JRUN) to scale near-linearly.

While growing the company from initial launch to a continuous release cycle, I leveraged my ties in the web 2.0 community to garner press coverage, business relationships, word of mouth marketing and overall traction. I handled all marketing, sales, distribution channels and strategic alliances with external suppliers and ISVs in a rapidly expanding environment.
