I started working with Oracle while employed at IU as an Unix System Administrator. Working with various researchers I installed and configured multiple instances in support of their research. I currently support 11 Oracle instances. I regularly create new schemas, use RMAN for backups, install updates, add additional packages at the request of my customers and address performance issues. Additionally, I perform the various Unix tasks associated with locating, creating, and mounting filesystems to be allocated to Oracle.
I recently modified scripts that create MySQL 5.06 servers for our Researchers allowing them access on their own port and the ability to start and stop their servers and create backups at will.
I thoroughly enjoy working with people to help them accomplish their goals. I view myself as a customer support person regardless of my position. I believe in sharing knowledge with others so that they may become stronger themselves.
I also really enjoy working with hardware. I have great troubleshooting skills from years of working at Sun and wish I could do a bit more of that. My favorite system to support has been the Sun E10K. It was a complex system to administer and I was able to use all areas of my expertise in doing so.

Provide all levels of support: Install Oracle, create databases and schemas, complete backups using RMAN and attend to the specific requests of multiple customers in IU’s Research community. Recently migrated multiple databases to new hardware using datapump and transportable tablespaces. Allocate file systems, create startup scripts, create links, and compile/install system software. Also have installed Apache/Tomcat Servers, configured Perl DBI/DBD, and CGI connections to the databases.

Initially a Mechanical Drafter I soon became a CADD Drafter creating drawings on Computervision hardware with a CGOS OS. I was promoted to CADD Tool Designer and while holding that position, I learned how to use a self-teaching DNC system. After presenting the system, to upper management I was offered the job of Manufacturing Engineer. I created NC programs for the Burn Shop and monitored the floor, ensuring that schedules within shop were met and parts being manufactured to specification. Eventually, Computervision stopped using their proprietary CGOS OS, in favor of Sun Microsystems new SunOS 4.0. I proposed the purchase of a new Computervision SunOS DNC Automatic Nesting System which saved us 108k per year in time and material savings. I used the new hw to create Nested Direct Numerical Control (DNC) programs for both multitorch oxy and plasma cutting machines. In addition I was the SunOS Sys Admin. I have been interested in Sun hardware and software ever since.
