Stefan Wessels, co-founder and technical architect of emerging media company Breakdesign.com has been working in the creative/technical environment since 1997.
Starting in Johannesburg where he was a graphic designer, programmer and systems architect. He later moved to Sweden where he worked as designer (Flash/Web) and programmer (ActionScript/PHP/ASP) for Y&R WCJ Stockholm. At Y&R he created award-winning flash campaigns for Ericsson, MTV, Saab, Xerox, Ford and KLM. At the end of 2001 he joined Nokia Sweden to become content manager & UI designer for their most advanced ITV projects.
After returning to South Africa, he joined a leading UK design firm, where he created international campaigns and content for bands such as Moloko, Kings of Leon, Massive Attack, Foo Fighters & Metallica.
Wanting to take control of their professional lives, himself and Rick Treweek, an animator, illustrator and out-of-the-box thinker, started Breakdesign at the end of 2003 in Cape Town.
Currently Breakdesign, with core team based in Singapore, is a multi-award winning research & development studio creating games and applications for the mass and early adopter market, as well as building mobile applications and platforms to enable these groups to communicate and interact. They regularly consult to creative agencies & technology providers who come to them to help plan and successfully execute first-to-market concepts on emerging platforms.
Their clients include Nokia, Adobe, American Express, Johnny Walker, Sony Ericsson, MTV, Diesel, Tiger Beer and other leading brands across various platforms spread across the globe.

We continuously do consulting for Nokia in Scandinavia & Asia. We have helped them with Symbian problems, developed custom Flash Lite & Symbian software for the launch of phones, advanced themes, and helped integrate new technologies on their phone platforms. We also beta test various software and hardware for them.

We have been consulting for Ogilvy Singapore since the end of December 2006. In that time we created two award winning mobile applications for them (Johnnie Walker Digital PA & American Express Digital Concierge), as well being the founding members of the "Ogilvy Innovation Lab". We are currently consulting to them in terms of mobile strategy, design & research.

In 2006 I was fortunate to be asked by Adobe to do talks in Las Vegas, Taipei & Singapore at their Max events. The topics were: Breakdesign's "alternative" strategy and general Flash Lite development. It was awesome, I met most of our competitors and they we all really cool people.
