Stefan Koopmanschap’s Summary

After learning myself PHP as the first programming language during my study, when I started with PHP3, I've gone through PHP4 to currently PHP5. I've done anything from "simple" websites to full-blown Content Management Systems to intranet-systems to an XML server that talks to a desktop software application.

I feel a strong commitment to the PHP and Open Source community. I am a user of a lot of Open Source applications and libraries, and try to give something back as well, be it in the form of documentation, bug reports, modifications, or even applications.

Currently, I am specialized in PHP5 development, especially with the Symfony framework. As such, I am also occasionally available (through my employer) as PHP5 or Symfony consultant or developer.

Some people try to develop everything at once and think changing existing code is a waste of development time. Not me. Refactoring is one of the most powerful tools of development. Start with something simple, keep refining it until it is perfect. During this session, we'll dive into the power of refactoring. Why to do it? How to do it? And why it is actually saving time instead of wasting time.

  • Zend

    Zend PHP5 Certificate, Zend PHP5 Certification, 20072007

  • Hogeschool van Utrecht

    yes, Communication Systems, 19952002

In retrospect, this education was not technical enough for my liking, but having done this education has given me a much broader background than most programmers have, enabling me to keep more than just the technical approach in mind. Even though it is not my hobby, this allows me to do more than just programming, I can do (minimal) analysis, recommend on user interface aspects (I can not design myself), but also look at organizational needs (consultancy)
