Scott Sanfilippo is often described as a serial entrepreneur, having started two highly successful technology companies and always looking out for the "next big thing."
In 1994, Scott and his partner Joe Palko launched one of the Internet's first e-commerce sites - TheFerretStore.com which started out selling food, toys, cages and accessories for pet ferrets. As the business grew, the company took on additional lines and eventually became a full-line pet supply store with supplies for dogs, cats, small animals and of course, ferrets.
The success of TheFerretStore.com and the growth of the Internet, led to the launch of an additional 35 Internet pet stores, each specializing in a specific market segment.
On May 1, 2007, TheFerretStore.com and its related properties were sold to pet supply giant Drs. Foster and Smith.
In 2001, Scott and Joe started a second company called Solid Cactus. The new venture provided e-commerce site design and consulting to aspiring small business owners to get up and selling on the Internet.
Today, Solid Cactus is the largest provider of e-commerce services which include site design, search marketing, print and catalog design, call center services, advanced software development and more. The company is a major employer in northeast Pennsylvania and has been named one of the "Best Places to Work in PA" for 2006 and 2007 as well as being listed in the Inc 500 list of fastest growing private companies in the United States.
