My interest in technology as an extension of human body and mind began with my year long research in IIT Kanpur Robotics lab, where I worked on creating a computer vision system that could detect human pose. Later, I further delved into Virtual Reality, Artificial Intelligence and CGI during my internships at the phenomenal EPFL LIG lab and University of Zurich. During this time, I was also pursuing photography as a serious hobby.
I worked on embedded technologies at EFI for a few years, during which time I did cinematography for a friend's film. Soon after, I did my own short films and then later left EFI and US to pursue films actively.
For a while, I made short films in Bangalore, Mumbai, and worked with clients such as O&M, IBM, CLE. At the same time, I started the first videoblog from India, making short cultural documentaries on Indian culture. I also started exploring longer formats, and completed my first docu experiment -- 'Auto Meri Jaan'.
My interest in web as a connected media production tool brought me back into deep technology, and I joined Mixercast Inc (in its founding team).
Currently, I am working on a second startup which takes hyperconnectivity to the next level. In the meantime, I am also working on a film (and therefore exploring the incredible world of UV and IR photography... which helps me see the invisible!).
While the dual interest in technology and films might seem highly schizophrenic, the fact that the future is about an incredible interplay of the two, is not a new idea -- pointers to this are scattered in works of early 20th century philosophers, outstanding french philosophers such as Deleuze, the esoteric McLuhan.
Most recently, Lars Von Trier made a film which was shot and edited by a machine. This area gives us a wide field of opportunities to play in --- from reactive media, to evolutionary films, from films that see the invisible, to art that gives us a sixth sense.
