Sorin Hermon’s Summary

I have gained experience in the field of Digital Cultural Heritage, managing and coordinating large scale EU funded projects, among them Chiron EST Marie Curie project, the Coins project and workpackages of the Epoch project. My other experiences are related to the development of Information Technology installations for Cultural Heritage museums, museology, field archaeology and human evolution. I have been teaching at the University of Ben Gurion for several years, in the department of Bible, Archaeology and Ancient Near East, as well as organized and taught a number of summer schools and formation courses related to the use of New Technologies for Cultural Heritage.

My research goals are related to the fields of knowledge transfer, particularly knowledge about culture and cultural heritage, the concept of culture and how to design cognitive technologies adapted to the education and communication of Cultural Heritage, such as visualization, collaborative and knowledge management tools. Other fields of interest are the definition of semantic structures for Cultural Heritage data representation and the definition of new methodologies for archaeological research.

    Following the completition of my PhD studies i obtained a two year post - doctoral fellowship at BGU for the study of social dynamics in prto - historic, fringe, desert societies in the southern Levant, coordinating a team of young researchers.

    Activities and Societies:
    I have been teaching courses related to the methodology and theory of archaeological research, prehistory and human evolution and computer applications to archaeology.

    During my MA, i studies modules from the Institue of Archaeology, Dept. of Philosophy and Cultural Anthropology.

    Activities and Societies:
    My MA thesis discussed, from a statistical perspective, methodologies of planning the strategies of surveys of prehistoric sites. Data originated from a survey of more than 300 sites and find spots, from the Lower Palaeloithic to the Neolithic period, in the area of the Southern Hebron mountains, Israel.
