Mapping of Design Thinking onto Problem-Based Learning within the One-Day-One-Problem Pedagogy(Link)

ICSID Design Education Conference
November 2009

The scope of this paper is to give an insight into the unique pedagogy at Republic Polytechnic (RP), namely the One-Day-One-Problem™ (ODOP) approach, and to demonstrate a mapping of the iterative nature of 'design thinking' onto the structure of the RP Problem-Based Learning (PBL) context. Salient features such as starting with a problem statement or trigger, having three meetings and two study periods characterize each lesson day.

We will examine how different stages in 'design thinking' such as Ideation, Evaluation, Implementation, and Critique, coupled with PBL at RP can be developed together as a discipline in design education.
