Funded by the 30 Major League Baseball owners, MLB Advanced Media maintains websites for the league and for all 30 baseball clubs. As a Front End Developer, I was part of a team that managed the front end of all of MLB's properties (MLB.com, MLS, Rehearsals.com, various player websites), from the HTML/CSS code to the Javascript libraries to the site's directory structure. I worked as the main developer for MLB.com and the 30 club websites, as well as the personal websites for Derek Jeter and Barry Bonds. This involved working closely with the Editorial and Design departments to develop new sections and features, and also to templatize and streamline the content on the site. I spent a great deal of time displaying raw generated data (like news stories and stats feeds) on the website using XSLT and Javascript objects.

February 2000 — September 2000 (8 months)
Webmaster of Yankees.com. (The site has since been re-designed as MLB.com has taken control of the MLB club websites.) Daily responsibilities included site maintenance and updates. I worked closely with the New York Yankees (PR department, Publications department, players and coaches) and our lead beat writer onsite at Yankee Stadium to develop daily content for the website. As webmaster, I was also in charge of the technical side of the website, from the SportsTicker stat feeds to the PHP code. I also designed and produced new sections for the site, including: Yankee history section, Whitey Ford Day Tribute, Old Timers' Day Section and Bob Sheppard Day Tribute. On occasion, I gathered quotes from both the home and visitor clubhouses and wrote feature stories. I designed most of the
graphics and images on Yankees.com with Photoshop. This job allowed me to do a little of everything, from designing new logos to working with PHP code to writing stories.

Responsibilities included converting JPGs/PSDs into HTML, instituting JavaScript and CGI functionality and tweaking the overall layout of web pages. I also worked extensively with Advance Internet's Server Side Frames (SSF) technology. Much like HTML frames, SSF allows content frames to be dynamically loaded from different servers. Additional time was also spent on a syndicated children's science site called Yucky. Since January 2004, I've coded HTML/SSF templates on a freelance basis for Advance.

Since NJ.com is the online affiliate of the Star-Ledger, our responsibilities included editing and enhancing the paper's content for the internet. As a part-time producer, I updated stories, created graphic tables that were embedded within the stories, updated stats, standings and schedules and wrote original sports analysis.
