Consulting for One is a SAP Business One business partner. We specialise in industry led solutions for small to medium sized businesses. My role is as it implies, developing new opportunities for the business. Despite the doom and gloom in the economy we are encouraged by the fact that many companies appear to be using this time to review their systems and opt for an enterpise package such as SAP. Key beneifts of Business One are full integration of all functions across one database providing improved cross-functional management, control, transparency and reporting. We are based in Wimbledon but cover all of England and Wales so please get in touch if your company is in the process of or about to review its current systems.

Provided what is known in inward investment agency circles as an aftercare service to foreign companies in London. Due to the fact we were a very small team, we took a strategic view that the bigger they are the harder they fall. We therefore concentrated our efforts on multi-nationals and others that we saw as strategic investors. My client portfolio variously included: Mitsui & Co, Ford, Xerox, IBM, Ask, Honeywell, Amdocs and a smattering of others.

This was an unusual project - for the UK that is. A mutual guarantee society is basically a credit union for businesses. Established as a co-operative, each member business would aim to save a regular sum and then, after a qualifying period, be able to borrow a multiplied amount against their savings. A number of societies were established in the UK but, unfortunately, the UK banking laws prevented them from operating as they should. It was a shame and no credit goes to the Treasury or (at the time) the Bank of England for not enabling them to work. In Portugal, a law was passed enabling MGSs to operate. Some of the largest banks in Europe (especially France) began as MGSs.
Anyway, I was one of the instigators of this one, bringing a founding membership of 21 businesses if I remember rightly. It was a fun project and quite a disappointment to some of the members, although we did help several with finance elsewhere.
