Joe Brummer has more than 5 years of experience in the field of conflict resolution. In December 2008, he attended the International Intensive in Nonviolent Communication with Marshall Rosenberg. In May 2008, he completed a three-day restorative justice training program through the Community Mediation Center of RI and accepted the Center’s invitation to serve on the Advisory Board for the Juvenile Restorative Justice Program. In September 2007, he completed the Basic Mediator Training through the Center and, for the past year, has been volunteering at least once a month in the RI District Court doing small claims and landlord tenant cases. In 2004, he completed a Training of Trainers Program in Nonviolence through the Institute for the Study and Practice of Nonviolence in Providence. As a consultant to the Institute, he worked to develop and present a refresher curriculum in nonviolence tailored to seventh and eighth grade students for a middle school in Pawtucket, RI. He is now presenting workshops based on Nonviolent Communication for organizations around New England.
Prior to moving to New Haven, Joe was the Community Organizer/Assistant Training Director for the Rhode Island Council of Community Mental Health Organizations. In his role there, he developed and presented workshops in Advocacy and Effective Legislative Communication for the Council’s member organizations and other community groups. Before his arrival, the organization’s training records and mailing lists were still kept on paper. With his directions and computer skills, the organization moved to a paperless system for its mailing lists. They now use a database created by Joe to link volunteer advocates to the contact information for their area legislators. He also created a database to track the progress and completion of participants attending training programs with multiple requirements.
He is now residing in New Haven, CT.
