The Internet Society (ISOC) develops the fundamental technical characteristics of the Internet and organizes and supports the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), the Internet Architecture Board (IAB), the Internet Engineering Steering Group (IESG), the Internet Research steering Group (IRSG), the Internet Research Task Force (IRTF), and the RFC Editor (which publishes the Internet
ISOC has chapters around the world and in India there are three chapters. The India Chennai chapter is to have alternate meetings in Chennai and Bangalore and has members from the southern states. Membership at present does not require a fee and is also open to people of this region based elsewhere around the world.
