Moving to an online self-service model, simplified systems and single vendor outsourced delivery. Technology roadmap and business model pioneered with BT RealTime, a Web 2.0 innovation venture that I developed with major customers.

c.800 IT Professionals from within the internal technology unit (BT Design) assigned to customer work. Initially established a team to support the solution design for major bids, helping to win £1bn in business for BTGS and driving standardisation of technology . Then asked to lead and reshape the BT Design professional services practices. Achieved 34% year on year revenue growth and 78% billable utilisation, working with clients in the government, financial services, telecommunications and retail sectors.

A combined business transformation and systems programme covering 60% of BT Global Services’ operations from first contact with a customer, through delivery to collection of payment. Partnering with the business to take an end to end view has delivered major benefits for BTGS in reducing operational cycle time and increasing right first time. With the BT CIO and others, I pioneered this approach which has now been adopted across BT. Approximately 700 people worked on the programme, 80% offshore.

BT Syntegra was the £1bn consulting and systems integration division of BT. I ran the internal IT function of around 130 BT people and led the integration of BT Syntegra's IT with BT Group, as part of the transformation of BT to a Networked IT Services company.

I ran the internal IT function of PA Consulting, a global consulting firm of around 3000 staff based in 40 countries. Group Systems employed around 150 people based in 16 locations, including development centres in Cambridge, England and Bangalore, India, where the majority of PA’s software systems are developed. I was the first Head of Group Systems to be appointed to PA’s Management Committee (the executive board).

CTO role in a startup created with two colleagues and sold to Impact Solutions as part of float on NASDAQ OTC market. Developing and selling market leading proprietary compression science products. Developed new software products from concept through to user trials, established technical partnership and OEM agreements with major companies and participated in share issue and capital markets activities raising $20m.

Developed and implemented a strategy for building and operating the corporate IT infrastructure as well as providing interfaces to the operational satellite systems and supplier and customer systems.

I was the World Wide Chief Information Officer for J. Walter Thompson, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer. I was responsible for JWT’s IT strategy and operations in approximately 70 countries employing 130 IT staff. I conceived and led the introduction of JWT's first global network, applications, email, intranet and client extranet as part of JWT's successful transition to a single global business.
