Quick bio:
I'm a Brit who has been in the States for 20 after coming over for a post-doc in '89. I have spent almost 20 years in the pharmaceutical industry in a variety of positions including Head of Thrombosis Research for Searle, Director of Knowledge Management and Strategy for Monsanto Corporate Division, and Head of Science and Technology for Pfizer Drug Safety Evaluation.
In addition to my work as a communicator and educator, I am working on a book on the over-abundance of health information on the web and its effect on patient's choices. As part of my research for the book I am investigating the patient's experience of disease as it contrasts with the medical community perspective. Translating science to the public and to caregivers is my passion.
My major goal is to complete the book and get it published before I get too old too market it (!).
My particular areas of focus for research are mind-body medicine, primary care, diabetes, eye diseases, diseases of the elderly, psychiatric diseases, personalized medicine, and cancer. I am a member of the Scientific Advisory Boards for the Personalized Medicine journal and a UK- based IT company.I am also currently serving on the board of a local Food Center and working with the center to end hunger through building community resilience in the county of New London.
