Shelley Ryan's current gig is with MarketingProfs, where she is Den Mother to thousands of their paid online subscribers. She still dabbles with web development, graphic design and blogging when she has time. Late at night she ponders whether she'll have another business venture of her own someday.
During the entrepreneurial phase of her life, Shelley founded BirdNest.com in 2000 while still running InfoLeap, her first company. She left smarter and better-looking people than her in charge of BirdNest in September 2004. It's actually making money now.
The rest of the story:
Shelley has almost forgotten about her many years of experience in designing and deploying technology for Fortune 500 employers and clients. She founded InfoLeap, LLC in 1997, which supported corporate development teams by defining requirements and implementation tools for software and web applications. InfoLeap's employees provided design and usability expertise to clients such as Chevron, Compaq, and Baylor College of Medicine.
Prior to founding InfoLeap, Shelley held positions at Compaq, Browning Ferris Industries (yes, the garbage company), and a PC retailing chain back when there was such a thing. Throughout her career in big fat corporations, she combined her technical agility with her skills in organization development, business process analysis, team building, and training. No marketing whatsoever.
Shelley has been a speaker at local and national conferences on information design, entrepreneurial tendencies, e-government, and web technologies. She hasn't done that kind of thing in years, but some say she was pretty good at it. ;]
Now: Online seminar production, copywriting, seat-of-your-pants marketing, customer service management, and bechamel sauce.
Then: Web and software design for usability, information architecture, e-government, training and development.

I wear many hats at MarketingProfs, the online destination for 300,000+ marketers. I started out as an active member myself while struggling to grow my own company, then happily dove into a short-term gig to help get their customer service processes and systems in place. Customer service has now grown into a talented four-ninja operation, I'm proud to say. I also do a huge amount of copywriting for promotions and announcements to MProfs members. What's my favorite thing I do around here? I produce our stunningly popular online seminars... which sometimes feels a little like doing live television through soup cans and string. Love it. ;]
I still wonder if I'll start another company of my own someday, but I get so much joy working with the MarketingProfs team. Staying firmly put in this virtual company, thank you very much.
