Sheila McNellis Asato’s Summary

Sheila Asato, M.A., is the founder of Monkey Bridge Arts, an artist and Japan specialist. Her work focuses on the healing and spiritual aspects of cultivating an active relationship with imagery through dreams, art, and writing. She is also a cross-cultural trainer for Shepell-fgi, providing customized training in cross-cultural psychology and communication for business people and their families, with a special emphasis on Japan – America relations.

Asato holds a Master’s degree in Human Development, as well as a BA with honors in East Asian Studies and Fine Art. Born and raised in the US, Asato has also lived and worked in Japan for nearly 15 years, and in the UK for almost 5 years. Throughout her career and in her research, she has focused on the self healing role of creativity in helping people adapt successfully to challenging life circumstances such as caring for aging parents and having children, as well as specific circumstances that arise from being posted abroad. In particular, she has focused on how creative problem solving and personal expression can help people create healthy, whole lifestyles.

As the mother of a child with autism, she is also deeply familiar with the particular challenges faced by families of children with special needs and the specific issues which can arise when such families are posted abroad and as well as when they return to their home countries. Ms. Asato is also currently enrolled in a three year certification program with Robert Bosnak at the International Society for Embodied Imagination to become an embodiment coach. www.cyberdreamwork.com/LAProgram.html
