Making media more social since 1995.
Greater Los Angeles Area
I began my Internet career in San Francisco in 1995, and have been using social media to create great user experiences and engagement ever since. I have developed online communities for Classroom Connect, Helen and Charles Schwab Foundation, and Business.com, and has advised non-profits including MobileActive.org and YouthAssets.org. In 2001, she was a Geekcorps volunteer in Ghana and consulted with NGO’s through USAID’s EDDI project.
I am a contributor to the upcoming book published by O’Reilly Media and Yahoo Press, Designing Social Interfaces. I specialize in extending live events through the social web, and in October 2008 was in charge of social media for BarCamp Africa, an event sponsored and hosted by Google to connect people in Silicon Valley and African countries. In addition, I have blogged, tweeted, and shot video at technology and innovation conferences from DC to Johannesburg, and will work with envisionGood.tv to video the Social Capital Markets conference (SOCAP09) in San Francisco in September, 2009. I recently arranged a PBS FrontlineWorld iWitness interview covering the emerging technology scene in Swaziland.
My passions include documenting positive stories about Africa and its diaspora, forging connections between Silicon Valley and African countries, helping entrepreneurs thrive on the social web, and becoming fluent in Final Cut Pro.
