Scientific Programme Manager at Science Foundation Ireland
Ireland
Steve is a Scientific Programme Manager within Science Foundation Ireland (SFI). SFI is an agency of the Irish Government tasked with funding top-tier academic research within Ireland.
My personal remit is to manage most of the proposals and projects within the software area in SFI's portfolio. This includes 4 centres (each of whom have a budget in excess of €10m): DERI, Lero, CNGL and CLARITY.
In addition to the large centres I am responsible for many Principal Investigator grants, and a number of the big SFI programmes. Most recently, I was involved in the design, development and launch of the SFI Stokes Lectureship and Professorship Programme.

Science Foundation Ireland (www.sfi.ie) is an Irish Government agency charged with funding scientific research in Ireland. SFI has a specific mandate to concentrate on Information and Communicaitons Technoloy (ICT) and BioEngineering & BioTechnology (BioT).
My work with SFI involves managing the grant application process for proposals in my area (computer science, software and networking), as well as administering funded projects.
This work allows me to interact with some of the brightest minds in the software/comp sci area in Ireland. In particular, I'm responsible for four of the nine CSETs that SFI funds:
* DERI (www.deri.ie) which works in the area of semantic web
* Lero (www.lero.ie) which works in the software engineering area.
* CLARITY (www.clarity-centre.com/) which works in the area of intelligent sensing
* CNGL (www.cngl.ie) which works in next generation localisation
